Woo Hoo It's Done

Pot 4 Dickie is done!!!!!!

The last stitch was taken at 7:30pm on 2/20/2016, it was started 2/16/2011. I will have to wash and straighten it out but it is done and beautiful. It looks very catty wompish in the picture but that is from it being on the frame for so long.
I was able to personalize it but the wording is in Dutch I think. It says "The granddaugther of Franklin Beall has made this sampler". The other phrase on the sampler says "after the rain the sun will shine".

Hearts AFlutter and other updates.

I am going to participate in a year long QAL called The Splendid Sampler. There will be 100 blocks in this quilt with over 80 different designer and many different types of needlework.
The blocks will come out on Sunday and Thursday each week and the first one came out yesterday. The block is called Hearts Aflutter  designed by Pat Sloan. I love it.

I have also been working on Pot 4 Dickie, I am very close to finishing this sampler.

I am working on a few other things but my quilt room is topsy turvy. In fact my whole house is a mess. I am having the carpet replaced in the bedrooms and had to empty out all the closets and get everything off the floors but the furniture. Wow didn't realize all the hobby stuff I brought with me to Florida and just how much fabric I have acquired since I started quilting.

Home again Home again

Well made it home on Dec 3rd after my knee replacement on Nov 18th and time in rehab. I am not in as much pain as I heard, thank goodness but there is still pain. I did a lot of PT and OT to get back where I need to be. I am pleased to say the home PT tech told me that I only need two session a week since I am doing great learning to use of my new knee.
I didn't do much extra in Rehab but working at getting my PT and OT done and sleeping, so my Cross Stitch and laptop stayed in the bag. So today after my exercises I took a 3 hour nap than pulled out my Pot 4 Dickie. Didn't get much done but it is a start back into my stitching. I am not driving either my car or my sewing machine so cross stitching will be my craft of choice for a little while longer.

12/7/2015 just a few lines added but its a good start.

Happy Stitching and I wish everyone a happy holiday season.

Stitching Update 11/12

I have worked on Pot 4 Dickie a few times since the last update. It's looking pretty good.
I may take it to the rehab with me or wait till I get back home to work on it. After all needles and small scissors might not be good around pain medisine.

I finished chopping up the last Jelly Roll Quilt and sewing it back together. The squares have sashing, I added a border and cornerstones. Janet and I picked out a flannel backing fabric and I added the two color magic binding to finish it off. It turned out a lot prettier than I thought it would. I know it will look great on the brown leather sofa in Janet's living Room.

Update on Pot 4 Dickie

I pulled out Pot 4 Dickie yesterday and I got the outline done on the last two bands. The finish is in site my friends and I can't wait. I will put another UFO on the frame when this one is done. Not sure which one yet but it will be a UFO started in Virginia.
I am sorry to say that between this and all the quilting I was doing in the last week I have been doing I have pain in my right thumb and hand. So today and maybe Monday I am going to stay away with anything to do with sewing and pretty much anything that needs me to use my hand to much. I Evan tried zen tangle this morning and the movement with the pen hurt my hand so no writing or drawing either.
So happy stitching everyone till my next update.

My Summer Quilting Plans

Well Pot 4 is still on the stitching frame but it will get done.
I have been making myself a quilting and stitching plan for the summer.
January's Block
I am going to be working on a Block Of The Month called Galaxy of Stars, I have done the January and February blocks and have March, April and May to get done before June 1st. I am using a Black material with white dots for my background and green, purple, red, and yellow from my stash on this quilt. I love having a big stash of fabric to draw on for my quilts. The scrappier the better for me.
February's Block
I am working on Aim For Accuracy II which comes out on the 7th and 21st of the month. I have completed 3 lessons so far and should have the next 3 lessons done by the 21st. Here are all my blocks so far. I am using Fat Quarters in purples and greens with a background of whites from my stash.

Lesson's 1-3
I will be working on Smith Mountain Morning by Bonnie Hunter and a Dear Jane quilt. So I have a busy busy summer ahead of me but I am looking forward to it.

Pot 4 Dickie just 3 rows to go

Pot 4 Dickie will be done in a few weeks I hope. Than I will pull out another of my big projects to work on.

Most of my big quilting projects are done, but my to do list is still long. I plan to work on quilting a few of my pieced tops over the next few months. I love to be able to piece and quilt my quilts myself. But hey I am retired and I have time.
I am really enjoying my quilting and learning many different small projects with Gail and Sonia and Donna. I have learned to make Market Bags and Mondo Bags and Pillow Cases and Wine Totes and Bowl Cozies and Potato Pouches and Hanging towels and a Zippered Purse. So I have had a busy few months and plan to keep learning. I think a Casserole dish tote and double Potholders are on my to do list for sometime soon.
Happy Stitching everyone.

OH NO SOMETHING ELSE

OMG I have learned to make a purse. Its not perfect but it is the first one I have made but not the last. First zipper I have put on anything since Home Economics in Groveton High School back in the 60's.

I did finish another row on Pot 4 Dickie but didn't take a picture yet but I will. My Nieces are coming over from Coco beach tomorrow so I am cleaning the house. Have not had cards for a while and the clutter is getting out of hand. So I had to fix that than clean.
Happy Stitching everyone.

Hobbies Update

Been working on Kelli and JD's wedding quilt and a quilt for Ashlea's birthday. Both tops are done now I have to make them into quilt sandwiches and quilt them. Here Ashlea's with the border's attached. I will post a picture of the other quilt later.

I have been playing around with paper piecing too. I got a taste of it with the wild and goosey and now I have done another one.

I also made a binding tool star, Have to stop watching Missouri Star Quilt companies You Tubes, love Jenny. Sadly I had to take apart the star. It turns out the black material that I got from a lady who was getting out of sewing was dry rot. I had to rip out one of the seams and the material shredded. So I had to take the start apart. One of these days I will make it again and make it into a wall hanging.
I did sew on Pot 4 Dickie for about an hour this week but have no picture to post. I will post an update on it next week.
Happy Stitching All

Pot 4 Dickie update and a few quilt projects.

I have made a little progress on Pot 4 Dickie but I missed finishing it by my birthday since it has come and gone. I am going to try to get it done before I head up to NC for my niece Kelli's wedding in April. She and JD eloped when she came home from overseas and now they are having a wedding so Richard can walk her down the aisle.
On the left is what Pot 4 looked like on 1/1/15 and the right is today 1/29/15. I added two rows of stitching under the birds and started on the next row of flowers.
I love to learn new things so when my FB group started posting about making paper piecing blocks that are only 3 1/2 inches big I had to try it. They are called Wild and Goosey, so I have to say I was goosed.  Here are the two blocks I did using my scraps. I may try more but I have a wedding quilt to piece and quilt. I am going to make a French Braid Quilt for Kelli and JD.
I can post it here because I know they don't look at this blog. On the design wall I have one braid sewn together and the other three ready to sew. So far I am enjoying this pattern, it's the first time I have tried one of these but it won't be the last. I will keep you all posted on my progress.

Happy Stitching All.

Happy 2015 It's a great start to a great Year,

I watched the ball drop to bring in 2015 right after the last few stitching were done to finish another band of Pot 4 Dickie .

Than I went to Quiltville to see that Bonnie had posted the last clue for the Grand Illusion Mystery Quilt. I wanted to head to the sewing machine right than but there was no way. This morning I got 3 blocks sewn than just had to put it on the design wall to see how it was going to look. It's very colorful and I can't wait till I get the rest done.
Oops as I am looking at the picture I see a block that was set in wrong, have to go fix that.
Happy Stitching everyone and stay safe and well in 2015

GIMQ Check in and others

Clue 5 came out Friday and I was able to get it done in a few hours so I had time to play in the quilt room. I also finished the band I was working on my cross stitch sample Pot 4 Dickie.
Here is clue 5 before I put it away with the other finished clues. These colors are really growing on me and it will be interesting to see how they all come together in a 88" by 88" quilt.

Here is P4D and the band I finished. You can see I already started the next band. The next two bands are pretty narrow and shouldn't take to long. I work on my cross stitch when I am not in the quilt room. I have found a good way to prop up my stitching frame and it is making stitching fun again.
Below are a few things I was playing with in ht e quilt room. I a always surprised by how much I am enjoying this sewing stuff.

The start of a Winter Table Topper I was playing with.

4 Disappearing Hourglass blocks take 2, only 14 more to go.

Mug Rugs for my brother and Karen.

Pot 4 Dickie and GIMQ update

Wow I finally finished this band on Pot 4 Dickie so I only have 3 narrow bands and 3 wider bands left to do. One of the wider bands is 3 lines of Dutch lettering that translates to "The granddaughter of Theodore Hendriks has made this sampler" I will put in the name of my grandfather name. Also the phrase that you can see in the picture translates as "after the rain the sun will shine"

I have also completed 51 of my blocks for Clue 2 of the Grand Illusion Mystery Quilt. I will not get the other 49 done before the new clue comes out in the morning so I will be working on both clues next week.

Happy Stitching Everyone.

Friday in the quilt room

I spent a few hours in the quilt room this morning jumping from project to project only getting one thing almost completed.
1. First thing I did was a sample block for Clue two in the Grand Illusion Mystery Quilt. I need to work on it and cut way more fabric but I wanted to get one done.
Block 1 of 100 and it is a little off so I need to figure out what I did wrong. It is only 1/8'' but if you times that by a 100 the quilt will be way off so I will work on this tomorrow.

I also cut the lining for two market bags that were put on hold while I worked on the two Mondo Bags I made.

Then I worked on making a pre-printed cloth book. I was given the books and would like to get them made but I can see this is not going to become something I do a lot of.  I am going to hit the recliner and slip closed these pages so it will be finished. Cute isn't it.

Once that is finished I am going to finish hand sewing the edge of a hand made Grandmothers Flower Garden Quilt for a friend. It has been sitting here long enough. Now that my finger is healed I should be able to do the hand sewing and get it done. Than if I am not crazy I am going to work on Pot 4 Dickie. Its not going to be done by 2015 but it will be done in 2015.
Happy Stitching everyone.

Slow Progress But an UpDate

I don't have much of an update but did want to pop in to the blog. I have not felt very well the last 2 weeks but I am on the up swing I hope. Still not sure what is going on with this old body but the Doc is going to keep working on it. More blood tests on Thursday and a medicine change is possible.

On the craft front I worked on P4D off and on between napping and reading.

I got 4 rows of my puzzle quilt blocks sewn together and joined. Still have 5 more rows to go.
Can you see what happens when you sew the blocks together with that great 1/4 inch seam. It almost made the rows 5 1/5 inches shorter. The whole quilt will become 10% to 20% smaller once its sown together and quilted.

Pot 4 Dickie and my new Jigsaw Puzzle Quilt

I have gotten almost half of the next band of Pot 4 done this week. The stitching was pretty dense so it was slow going .

I also saw a Jigsaw Puzzle quilt on FB an just had to try to make one. I am using the rest of the second hand shirts I brought over the last few months. I have 60 blocks sewn and have about 60 more cut out waiting to be sewn together. Since all the blocks are interlocked it takes a while to get them set up on the design board. Than it takes time to sew them together a few at a time so they don't get out of order. But I am taking my time and it is a fun quilt to work on.
Happy stitching everyone.
